Lisa is a full time general assignment news reporter for FOX 5, but specializes in crime, law enforcement and counter-terrorism stories. Her other areas of specialization include urban youth issues, substance abuse, and homelessness. Recently she’s been working on stories about the new drug epidemic.

SERIOUS BREAKING NEWS SKILLS

Her BREAKING NEWS LIVE reporting skills are often utilized by her bosses on major stories, like the arrival of Pope Francis at JFK – where because of his travel delay she had to do a 35 minute straight live report.

She developed this skill as a radio news reporter, starting with the CNN Radio Network, ABC Radio News and then for 4 years at 1010 WINS in NY.

Lisa likes to be in the mix on the big story and is the go-to reporter for breaking events. She was sent to Baltimore to lead off the 10p News during the street disturbances following Freddie Gray’s death. She led the station’s coverage for days after the Chelsea bombings in New York City.

TELEVISION TALK SHOW HOST

image4_1In 2015, FOX 5 turned Lisa’s groundbreaking HOT 97 FM talk show, “Street Soldiers with Lisa Evers” into a weekly television show. It was so successful, they are now in production on Season 2. “Street Soldiers with Lisa Evers” airs on FOX 5 at 10:30 on Friday nights, and on HOT 97 Sundays at 6am.

Topics focus on cultural issues like body image and gender and racial stereotypes, to news based topics like police tactics & the mentally ill, & include celebrities as well as experts and those involved. See a promo clip here…

Lisa began her TV talk show training as the anchor/host of NewsTalk Television’s 2 1/2 hour live program, “Morning Edition.”  She received the “Best Television Talk Show” award from Talkers Magazine for her work.

Lisa’s show streams live nationally on fox5ny.com and the FOX 5 app, as well as on hot97.com and the Where Hip Hop Lives App.

Her digital footprint is one of the most prominent in the NY market, and is growing nationally and internationally. Lisa is active on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google + and Snapchat, & posts daily from wherever in the world she happens to be.

PUBLIC APPEARANCES/SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Lisa is a popular speaker and host for non-profit organizations, community groups and colleges, and volunteers her time to help the community.

This year she’s hosted the annual luncheon benefit for the Coalition for the Homeless at the Pierre Hotel, was the keynote speaker for more than 300 girls at a Girls Empowerment Day conference at Monroe College. She also hosted a panel on “Women’s Self & Health” at the Circle of Sisters Expo at the Javits Center, among others.

AWARDS & VOLUNTEER WORK

Lisa has received numerous awards for her work in news and as a talk show host, including multiple Emmy nominations, an RTNDA award and others.

She has also been honored with numerous awards for her long time volunteer work in the community – from creating “Hip Hop Votes” in partnership with HOT 97, to Hurricane Sandy relief, and the “Push 4 Peace” annual event that started in Newark in 2011 with then Mayor Cory Booker.

Her most recent award is the “Shirley Chisolm Woman of Distinction” award for her contributions to empowering women.

Lisa is a former model with Elite Model Management in New York & Paris, and is the first Black Belt Magazine “Woman of the Year” inducted into their Black Belt Hall of Fame.

She speaks French and conversational Spanish, and is looking for a tennis partner with as crazy a schedule as hers so she can hone her skills & give Serena a run for her money!
