A violent incident unfolded in Manhattan’s Inwood neighborhood early Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and another injured after two separate stabbings outside a local nightclub.
The NYPD confirmed that a sprawling crime scene is now in place between Ninth and Tenth Avenues near West 202nd Street — a normally quiet area during the day, but part of a busy nightclub district after dark.
The violence began around 3:30 a.m. when police received a 911 call reporting a man stabbed in the neck outside the Tobo nightclub. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 28-year-old man with serious injuries and immediately began their investigation.
“The NYPD Crime Scene Unit and detectives are here, working the scene,” I reported from the block, where police were securing evidence and canvassing witnesses.
As officers expanded their search, they discovered a second victim, a 31-year-old man, just down the street. He had been stabbed in the shoulder and was found in critical condition amid a large crowd. Detectives say there may have been a brawl, but the full timeline is still under investigation.
“He might have been there for a little while,” I noted on scene. “There were a lot of people on the street.”
That second victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he later died. Police have not yet released his identity, pending notification of his family.
Nearby residents expressed shock. One working mother heading to her job told me, “This area is known for the bars and clubs. I haven’t heard of anything like this happening here in the two to three years I’ve lived here.”
At this stage, detectives say there is no indication that robbery was involved. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the violence — whether it was a dispute between two individuals or part of a larger altercation between groups.
The second victim, the 28-year-old man who initially brought police to the scene, is currently in stable condition.
The investigation remains in its early stages, and no arrests have been announced.
This is a developing story. I’ll continue to follow updates from the scene and the NYPD.
